Cameron Chamberlain, a recipient of the Humanities Scholarship, is studying International Affairs and preparing for a career with the New Zealand Defence Force as an Intelligence Officer. With her sights set on future deployments, Cameron hopes to combine academic expertise with real-world experience.
I’ve always been drawn to the strategic side of international relations. Becoming an Intelligence Officer allows me to serve New Zealand while engaging with global issues,” Cameron explains.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Cameron enjoys dance, choir, and crafts like crocheting and sewing. Weekly dance lessons and singing in a choir with her mum help her maintain a sense of joy and balance.
Growing up next to the wetlands in Ferrymead also fostered a deep appreciation for nature and community.
Cameron sees the rising cost of living as the biggest issue facing New Zealand, particularly for vulnerable populations. “It’s affecting everything—from education to crime rates and mental health. We need to do more to support those who are struggling.
Thanks to the Humanities Scholarship, Cameron is preparing for an exchange to France. “The financial relief has been huge. I’m grateful to my sponsor for giving me the chance to study abroad and continue my education without as much stress.
